Hello!

I just found a RAZR V3i from T-Mobile Germany which is unlocked.

What's the latest and safe firmware for the phone? Will it also remove the branding?

Hi there, I think there is no point to reflash this V3i because new firmware versions may be "sticky" with the impossibility of rolling back to "R479_G_08.B4.8DR" firmware.

So I think that the most preferable option to you is to flash only CG2 (Flex) and CG4 (Langpack) parts of any firmware you like.

These firmwares are checked so you can flash only CG2 and CG4 from them:

1. https://motofan.ru/downloads/100640/ - Dolce & Gabbana version.
2. https://motofan.ru/downloads/100639/ - Stock version.



Workflow is something like this:

1. Download any firmware for V3i with the favorite CG2 or CG4.
2. Open shx/sbf file of firmware in Flash&Backup 3 on the "Firmwares" tab with "Select file" button.
3. Delete all code groups except RAMDLR and CG2 (or CG4).
4. Apply "remove SP-lock" patch by tick for removing SIM-Lock from CG2 flex if any.
5. Save firmware with CG2 or CG4 only to SBF or SHX format.
6. Flash it using RSD Lite 3.8.

You are likely to lock the phone if you flash any unknown CG2 flex without an SP-Lock patch, be careful. It is possible to disable SIM-Lock on V3i but this is not a particularly easy procedure.

Well, I am not going to flash it since it is risky for me. I thought that the newer firmware version might have some fix or new features.

Are there any customizations for the phone available like changing font or design, skins?

V3i is quite difficult to brick so flashing CG2 (flex) and CG4 (langpack) separately is safe. Most customizations except skins uploading and SEEM editing require flashing the phone.

You already know how to edit SEEMs so I describe only installing skins process. The Ski best way to install skins is with the SkiMan program: Skins Manager V0.51 (от 18.03.2007). You can use this program to install skins downloaded from this forum section: Скины. Just connect phone in P2K mode (set USB-Modem in USB Sync settings) start program and uncheck all skin patches before skin installing.

Be sure to make a BackUp of the CG2 (flex) group in Flash&Backup 3 on Motorola V3i active profile before any customization or flashing so you can always return to the starting point.

I have a question though, I noticed that if I close the phone, the small screen is black for a short time (like a blink), switch to the large screen and it does the same when I open it. Is that normal? Isn't that supposed to stay on even when closing/opening?

There may be some hardware problems with the reed switch inside in your device.

Yeah, thats exactly that!

Is there a fix? Maybe an easy one?

I doubt there is an easy fix but try to check reed switch using some magnet.
